Downgate Alluvial Workings, Stoke Climsland, Cornwall.
A very rare locality specimen of bladed wolframite in a quartz matrix from the alluvial workings on the eastern side of the valley just North of the village of Downgate. The workings were in production from 1910 to 1919 and produced small amounts of tin and tungsten concentrates.
Richard Hoston visited the locality with Richard Barstow in the 1970s, but nothing was found as the site was heavily overgrown. “Pers. Comm. Richard Hoston.”
From the collection of Richard Hoston, formerly in the collections of the British Museum and Sir Arthur Russell. The latter’s label states that the specimen was originally in the collection of J. H. & H. F. Collins.
