Wheal Bungay, St. Agnes, Cornwall.

A specimen of hard pale elvan matrix shot through with feldspar crystals that have been replaced by cassiterite, the largest of these measures 2 mm long.
One side had been cut and polished the other left in its natural state.

This example was collected in March 2012 when a tractor ploughing a field on the Wheal Bungay mining set struck a mineralised elvan dyke and exposed several fine specimens.

Wheal Bungay is situated next to Wheal Coates which is also know to produce these replacements when the mine was active in the 1800s
